Dan's Advntures in First Grade Draw to a Close...

As the last week of school dawned, I was filled with a bittersweet melancholy, reluctant to let go of a school year that was Just. So. Wonderful.

Dan, on the other hand, was raring to go.

He was very excited to get to wear his pajamas to school for D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) Day.

I think the kids had the best time, though, on Game Day. Everyone got to bring a game from home. Dan brought in Mastermind, but he discovered a few new games that will definitely be on his birthday Wish List, especially Headbanz and Hangman...

The last day of school was a half day, so there were more games and fun, as kids anticipated our Summer Kickoff Party, sent to start at 12:15...

Meanwhile at home, I'd gotten the house ready and baked the cake...

The kids had a great time in the pool...

And on the tennis court...

It was a terrific day, putting a wonderful ending on a truly glorious year. We will especially miss having Mrs. Irwin as Dan's teacher, as she truly knew how to encourage his creativity and individuality while gently guiding him where he needed to be. She is one heck of an act to follow.
