Dan's class has a program called VIP, and every child gets to be VIP for a week. They get to wear a cool badge, are given a special lollipop, and must put together a several page project designed to practice skills like cutting, pasting, reading, drawing and writing. It also helps the children develop a sense of self, fosters creativity and builds relationships with their classmates. In other words, a very good thing.
Each week the teacher draws names to choose the VIP. Last year Dan was the very last child selected, and there were many tears as child after child was selected before him. We all made a big deal of it when his turn finally came, and opined that the only ones really remembered well are the very first and the very last.
The program has begun for this year, and guess who was selected as the very first VIP this year?
Daniel presented this to the class today:
It will hang in the classroom until Monday...
..., when a new VIP gets to present and post theirs.
Dan's pages will then be bound in a book and kept in the classroom, so that anyone who wishes to read it, can. Eventually it will be sent home, and cherished.
Just like Dan.
