Daniel's childhood is going so fast. It's going to be over before we know it, so I thought it important to make sure he gets plenty of Disney fun while he's young enough to be awed by the magic that Walt Disney does better than anyone else.
So, we spent a few weeks planning our trip, doing our best not to accidentally mention Operation Disney. There were a few times we blundered, but luckily Daniel was never the wiser.
We went and got Daniel out of school early that day, and he was so excited to be getting out early it never occurred to him to suspect anything. Seeing Pete waiting in the car was a thrill...but not enough to make him suspect. When we got on the highway he finally began to question where we were going.
Blah, blah, blah - he was surprised and excited, of course. And so were we (well, excited - not surprised).
We decided to really splurge on accommodations this time, and booked a room at the Wilderness Lodge on Disney property. While ridiculously expensive, staying on-property does have advantages.
The lodge was gorgeous, and we could take a little ferry boat ride to the Magic Kingdom.
We really didn't take a lot of photos - we were too busy having a great time...
The lines were pretty short - almost as if we had a golden ticket to get to the front of the line...
I have known Pete for 27 years, and could never get him to go on Splash Mountain. He feared the big drop at the end. Huey Lewis was right - the power of love sure s a curious thing. Daniel flashed his beautiful green eyes in Pete's direction, and next thing I know it we're all on the flume...
Pete seemed to like it. Though this photo was from the 3rd time we rode it.
Daniel, so cautious on terra firma,loved all of the wilder rides. Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain...
And we get to go back and stay at any of the deluxe resorts again for free, thanks to a series of small but annoying issues that seemed magnified considering the major dollars we paid to stay there. We bought season tickets, so we do plan on going several more times - but not until at least October. Floridians aren't crazy enough to go to Disney in the summer...
And note to self - no more trips to Disney without dinner reservations. My idea of fun is not running around Epcot trying to get Pete fed. :)
