Halloween is full of all kids of sweetness...

The faceless zombie walked the earth today, bringing sunshine wherever he went.

The day started off great, with a very excited boy jumping in bed with me, snuggling against me and telling me that he is so excited about it being Halloween he even dreamed of it.

As in years past, Dan got a special breakfast...

Um, those are eggs.

Yeah.

Daniel suffered through a regular day at school before coming home to prepare for the night ahead.

Since we will not be home I prepared the bowl of goodies to leave outside our door...

Dan donned his costume, and we went off to meet Dan's friend Connor, his trick-or-treating partner this year...

And off they went...

And, as expected, the mask lasted exactly one house...

But it didn't matter. They got gobs of candy, and Dan was very excited to receive a full-size Kit Kat bar...

Those kids had such a great time. Racing from house to house, competing to see who would be the first to say, "Trick-or-Treat!", laughing and joking and having the time of their lives.

He got into bed and said it was his best day EVER...

And was out 2 minutes later...

It was one of those parenting moments when life winds up being just how you dreamed it would be for your child, and your heart swells and your eyes get moist and you thank G-d, once again, for the sweetest gift of all.

I wonder if this is the Halloween Dan will most remember when he's an adult and thinks back on Halloweens from his childhood...

Me? I'll remember them all...

Oh, Dan told me that next year he wants a store-bought costume. When asked why, he said, "I want to be neat. I don't want to be sloppy like this."

Dude, you were a zombie. They're not exactly fastidious.

And so another milestone passed. No more costumes like the train, the garbage can or the bake sale, all lovingly made by me.

Sweet, bittersweet Halloween.
