Abandoned but not forgotten...

Pete yearns for North Carolina, even when he's not here. He spends lots of time on Google Earth looking at the area, just following roads to see where they lead. When he saw railroad tracks his interest was peaked, and he followed the tracks until he saw a train trestle. Since t hat day he's told me at least a hundred times that on our next trip we'd go find that trestle.

Today was that day. We followed a country road, which turned to a gravel lane barely wide enough for our Durango. Not far down we saw the trestle...

The tracks that run along it are long since abandoned, but the trestle still straddles a lovely stream.

The tracks show signs of wear, and one can't stand here and not wonder what's just around the bend...

The trestle stands majestically, beauty in it's simple architecture.

We had a lovely time in its shadow...

Pete and Daniel threw rocks as Phoebe scampered in the water trying to fetch them...

Tada!

Pete smiles, but not in nostalgia. I'd tell you why he was smiling, but it involves a dog and bodily functions, so I will spare you.

You're welcome.

My boys...
